Areca palm care
Areca palm care
Light: Prefers bright, indirect, filtered light, such as near an east- or south-facing window. They can handle partial shade but will grow slower.
Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry, allowing excess to drain to avoid root rot. Avoid letting the plant sit in water.
Soil & Potting: Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally a blend for palms or one containing perlite for aeration.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in 55-75°F (13-24°C). They enjoy higher humidity, so misting occasionally is beneficial.
Fertilizing: Apply a, slow-release fertilizer in spring, followed by a balanced, nitrogen-rich fertilizer monthly during the active growing season (spring/summer). Stop feeding in winter.
Maintenance: Regularly remove yellow or dead fronds to promote new growth.
Pests: Keep an eye out for spider mites and scale insects, especially if the plant is under stress.
Common Issues:
Brown Tips: Often caused by dry soil, low humidity, or water with high chlorine/fluoride content.
Yellow Leaves: Usually a sign of overwatering or poor drainage.
Dropping Fronds: Can indicate severe overwatering causing root damage.
Repot every 2-3 years, as Areca palms prefer to be slightly root-bound.
toxicity: non toxic to animals and humans
